assignment #4: The Trombone

I am researching the Trombone, it is a brass instrument. This instrument can make higher or lower sounds depending on how the player buzzes his or her lips, and how far they pull the slide. The mouth piece is connected to the long bell. The mouth piece is also larger then a trumpet's making it's sound a lot calmer and deeper. Trombones can be up to 9 feet long when the slide is out all the way. The slide of a Trombone replaces valves, the more you pull out the slide the lower the sound will be. The slide trombone was invented in the 1300's. To play correctly, the player must be able to work their mouths and be able to push and pull the slide very fast in order to get the notes. Cleaning the mouth piece is like cleaning any other mouth piece, you wipe it down with cleaner and swab it, then of course dry it but that goes without saying. They can play in the treble clef or bass clef. The inventor of it I cannot find, but the first design for a Trombone came from an old English instrument called the Sackbut (push and pull in french). You assemble it by putting the mouth piece into place, and sliding the slide into the holes. You maintain it by putting it into it's case and cleaning it after each session.
